Another legal notice to Intel?

Mumbai: Nagpur-based  Vidarbha Computer & Media Dealers' Welfare Association (VCMDWA), is planning to serve another legal notice to Intel for misusing its trademark, after the latter did not made any formal communication with the association. VCMDWA has already served a legal notice to Intel for the same. It has also demanded a compensation of Rs 15 lakh from the company from the damage caused.

“An executive had come to meet us. She told us that it was a mistake of a new inductee. But, we have
not received any formal communication from Intel's end” said  Prashant Ugemuge, President, VCMDWA. He said that the association is firm on its stand and is planning to serve another notice to the IT company, they could  even drag the company to the court.

It is worth mentioning that VCMDWA holds an annual event called 'Comp-Ex', every year. This year the event was held from Jan 11-12 in Nagpur, which saw around 1.5 Lakh people visiting. Intel earlier used to participate in
the event but avoided participation this time citing lack of funds as a reason.

The association alleged that Intel had taken them for granted and used their name in the advertisements run by it in a few newspapers, despite the fact that they refused to participate in the event. In the same advertisement, Intel also published the participant dealers' names. Of them some were not even Intel distributors. All limits were crossed when they put their stands in the event, despite not seeking any official permission form VCMDWA.

Ugemuge lamented “We would have liked to be associated with Intel, but the company has taken us for granted and used our goodwill to lure customers, without seeking any prior permission for us.”
