Bihar gets new IT Secretary

Bihar IT Association (BITA) has achieved a lot in the last few months. Last
month, on the demands of BITA, the government had appointed Anil Kumar as the
new IT Minister of State, this month their demands for a new IT Secretary have
finally been met. Alok Burdhan Chaturvedi (IAS), Addl Secretary Finance has been
appointed as the new IT, Science and Technology Secretary, Bihar.

An elated PK Sinha, Treasurer, BITA said, “We are very happy about getting
a new IT Secretary of Bihar. He is a key person in the development of IT in the
state and was actively involved with all the e-governance projects, outsourcing,
tendering etc. Chaturvedi has exposure to IT and e-governance projects.” Sinha
also informed that the IT department will soon get a new office.

“Since creation the department was under CM portfolio without a permanent
office. Now a new office is being set-up on the second floor of Technology
Bhawan, Bailey Road, Patna. The first floor houses the Department of Science and
Technology and third floor is for NIC and TCS.”

Sinha added further, “We have got a new office, new secretary and new
infrastructure, so we are positive about some growth. This is the right time.
Basic hurdles will be taken care of and very soon Bihar will be at par with
other advanced states as far as IT is concerned.”

Chaturvedi is also MD, Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (BELTRON).
Chaturvedi was instrumental in forming the IT regulatory and monitoring
authority-Bihar e-governance services and technologies (BEST). Among other
things he was looking after Bihar e-governance projects, treasury and finance
computerization etc.
