Like all first generation entrepreneurs, Budhay had to face many
hardships. In spite of the strong opposition from the family and friends, she
stood by her decision of starting her own venture. Today she is a proud owner of

Reeta Budhay

Job Profile

As the founder of Business Algorithm, a solution providing company based in
Nagpur, Reeta Budhay has seen her share of ups and downs in the channel
business. She started the company with her husband Sudhir Budhay and over time,
they came out with their own brand of machines called BAlgo. Currently she is
involved in the financial aspects of the company while also balancing the
day-to-day administration of the business.

Background

A qualified electronics and telecommunication engineer, Budhay started her
career as a marketing executive in an industrial automation-manufacturing unit
in MIDC, Nagpur. After working for around a year, she realized that it would be
more satisfying to start her own business rather than work as an employee. It
was in 1998 that she, along with her husband, ventured into computer sales, a
job that was a familiar domain since both of them had traded in PCs at their
previous jobs.

Challenges

Like all first generation entrepreneurs, Budhay had to face many hardships.
Shockingly, the venture faced a strong opposition from her family and friends.
Her parents and her in-laws protested their decision to up the firm. But in
spite of all the odds and opposition, the husband-wife team stood by their
decision. As the company posted positive growth, the opposition quieted down
within a year's time. Their entire savings were pooled in to start the
enterprise, thus making it mandatory for one of them to work as an employee for
external support. Budhay decided to continue working as an employee to balance
the family wheel. She took up a job with Coal India and within a year things
started falling into place and she joined Business Algorithm fulltime.

Strengths

Her sound technical knowledge gave her an edge in business. Having been in
the industry for almost two decades, she has also gained the aptitude to gauge
the people she deals with. This is especially important while, dealing with new
customers. Also her long standing in this community helps her in relationship
management, and handle peers and clients better.

Family

With her husband sharing her responsibility equally at home, the balance
between career and family was easier. The initial opposition from their families
mellowed down and now they proudly support her in her endeavor. Budhay is a
mother of two daughters-Rasika and Saee-who are in college.

Hobbies

Budhay, a workaholic, unwinds herself with her daughters. Spending time with her
kids fills her with zest. She also enjoys going to watch movies with her
daughters. She feels movies are the best way to tap the thinking of the young
generation.

Future Plans

With the current scenario in the IT industry, it's a challenge to maintain
growth. She also wants to start the first retail outlet in central India.
