CASE STUDY : Expanding Storage Requirements

Established in March 1988, Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC),
is primarily an R&D institution involved in the design, development and
deployment of advanced

IT-based solutions. C-DAC provides rack space to enterprises to host their
servers and also maintains its own servers. This makes it imperative for the
company to ensure 24x7 power supply and support availability in a cost-efficient
manner.

C-DAC data center is known for providing networking facilities with physical
security, power availability, infrastructure flexibility and customer support,
exceeding the standards set by global Internet brands. This implies the
availability of uninterrupted and simplified power architec­ture, security and
more options than any other player operating in the market.

For its data center in Noida, C-DAC required seven additional servers. The C-DAC
Hosting Services takes care of all the Internet needs of a company in a safe,
secure and fully sup­ported environment. This ensures that business applica­tion
are up and running on a 24x7 basis. What was required was an infrastructure with
no single point of failure, thus providing the highest level of availability.

New Delhi-based Spark Technologies grabbed the tender to supply a series of
managed servers to C-DAC. The system integrator deployed Dell servers at C-DAC
within a time frame of three weeks. It cost C-DAC Rs 19 lakh to install the new
set of servers at its data centers. The servers are being managed by a certified
networking and security team that has experience in managing and monitoring
enterprise-level networks. The network technicians are trained so as to ensure
that the company is able to meet the infrastructure availability guarantee.

S Nautiyal, CEO, Spark Technologies shared that C-DAC needed servers from
Dell that could be clubbed with the storage server at their data centers. “The
main objective of our client was to increase the capacity of its servers. With
the additional storage servers, the data centers could take the responsibility
of storing data of customers,” said Nautiyal.

Client's strategy

C-DAC doesn't rely on a single connectivity provider. It rather opts for a
multi-provider strategy. The company is already using servers by vendors like
IBM and HP and this time around decided to opt for Dell server.

“Our main objective of approaching multiple solution providers for server is
that if one or more providers experience congestion or downtime, traffic can be
rerouted through other network partners until the issue is resolved. By
installing Dell servers at our data centers, we have been able to meet our
technical strategies,” said Varun Jain, IT Manager, C-DAC. The after-sales
support of the Dell server is also being managed by Spark Technologies.
