Cisco's VC plans opportunity for solution providers

Confirming his long lasting belief to grow the overall networking ecosystem
within India, John Chambers, President and CEO, Cisco has announced to invest
$100 million spread over a period of three years as venture capital in emerging
Indian companies within the networking space.

This announcement by Cisco is likely to spur desire for innovation in a
number of solution providers within India vying to catch eyeballs of possible
investors. "We firmly believe that India is one of the most active markets
not only for us as a company but also for the whole region and the world. This
is our way to make sure that the overall ecosystem is nurtured well,"
explained a beaming John Chambers while addressing the joint press conference
with IT Minister, Dayanidhi Maran.

Talking about the kind of companies that are likely to catch eyeballs of
global networking major Cisco, Chambers said that innovation is the key.
"We would be looking forward to supporting startups operating in the
networking space and high on innovation. We would also be looking at small and
new companies that have a clear focus towards networking and are working towards
cutting edge technologies," he added.
