Cisco Systems has increased its venture capital investment in India by $100
million to incubate new technologies in the areas such as healthcare solutions.
It made its first investment in a venture of Satyam Computer Services to develop
virtual health management solutions based on Cisco's technology for healthcare
services-first in India and later expanded to other emerging markets such as
China and Brazil.
Meanwhile, Cisco and Wipro have entered into a strategic alliance to jointly
develop and deliver IT service solutions to help both companies meet their
customers' needs, particularly in fast-growing markets around the world. Under
the agreement, the two together will build new IT infrastructure service
solutions that combine Cisco's networking solutions with Wipro's infrastructure
and managed services portfolio.
The companies also announced the establishment of the Cisco solution center
at the Wipro campus in Bangalore, which will develop and showcase new services
and solutions.
Investments apart, Cisco also unveiled its globalisation center's East campus
in Bangalore at an event presided over by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President,
India. Speaking on the occasion, John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Cisco Systems
said, "India is a growing market for us and I will be disappointed if we grow
less than 30 percent (in revenues) over the next two to three years."
