Compuage launches cabinets with temperature indicators

Mumbai-based distributor Compuage Infocom has launched a unique cabinet that shows the temperature inside the cabinet on a small display panel in the front of the cabinet. The cabinet Odyssey 2252J has been designed keeping in view the large amount of heat generated inside the cabinet by all the new generation of processors like the Pentium 4 (Prescott). 

A small sensor inside the cabinet senses the temperature and displays it numerically on the front panel. 

"The Prescott version of Pentium 4 is known to generate a lot of heat. If appropriate care is not taken to cool the temperature inside the cabinet, it can cause damage to the motherboard as well as the CPU. The indicator on the cabinet informs the users about the temperature inside the cabinet, and accordingly the users can take appropriate measures," says Sameer N Sanghrajka, Products Manager, Compuage
Infocom. 

Odyssey 2252J, probably the only model available in India with such a feature, comes with a 300 watts SMPS, front USB port and a single fan. It also has a provision for putting an extra fan. The cabinet sports a jazzy looks with blue lights on the front. Other model launched recently by the company also sports 'disco' lights in various designs. 

Commenting on this feature, systems integrators are of the opinion that this feature adds to the glamour of the design. According to them, the temperature indicator only warns users about unsafe levels inside the cabinets, but it does not provide any solution to overcome the heat problem by automatically adjusting the fan speed or automatically putting the system on stand-by mode or shutting the system down. User intervention is required to do all these, which may not appease the entire SI community.
