Computer Association of Burdwan re-elects its members

Computer Association of Burdwan (CAB) held its annual general meeting (AGM)
recently where the earlier executive committee was unanimously re-elected. The
current committee office bearers include Sumit Ranjan Das as President, Tapas
Sarkar and Samaresh Samanta as VP, Subhasish Hazra as Secretary, Sabyasachi
Mukherjee and Sandip Bhattacharjee as Assistant Secretary, Monodeep Barat as
Convener, Ujjal Chakraborty as Treasurer and Prosenjit Bhattacharjee and Ashis
Nandi as Assistant Treasurer.

The executive members include, Shib Sankar Roy, Samik Neogi, Pintu Mehta,
Sanjit Debnath, Md Samim, Sayan Banerjee, Nabarun Barui, Kazi Motaher Hossain
and Debjyoti Champati. Speaking on the development, Das said, "During the
first tenure of the committee, a lot of constructive work has been done which
has yielded satisfying results. Among those, the most praiseworthy was that of
organizing Compex 2007."

CAB was formed six years ago with the help of local partners who were into IT
hardware and software business. "The association started on a smaller scale
and at present we have 50 members," informed Das. According to Das,
initially few dealers came together to organize a small IT show in association
with the local book fair. "But gradually we realized that the fund we had
for the exhibition was pretty large and was sufficient for an exhibition which
would provide us a better mileage," he added. The local dealers also felt
the need of an association and were contemplating forming a neutral body, which
could work for the betterment of the local IT traders. "We wanted to create
a platform for partners where they would get an opportunity to raise their voice
and thus CAB was formed," said Das.

During the second term, the existing committee plans to have activities for
the whole year. "The first would be Compex," informed Das. Secondly
the association is planning to conduct several awareness workshops and seminars
for the members and users on Linux, usage and benefits of IT and Internet for
the housewives etc. Thirdly it has plans to build a dedicated office for CAB.
"CAB doesn't has its own office and the activities are run from the offices
of the office bearers. But this time our effort will be to construct an office
for the association," remarked Das. Apart from this, CAB also plans to
attract the OEMs to improve their service support network in South Bengal as
well as to interact with software companies like Microsoft, to help create
awareness among end-users and partners to counter the menace of software piracy.
