Confed lifts ban on all products

Chennai: Confed-ITA has revoked the ban on all products and has given time till March 23rd for vendors to get back to them with a clear picture. "The ban has been lifted on all products and we have asked vendors to give clarifications on the current issue and a solution for the future by March 23, 2009," informed PN Prasad, President, Confed-ITA.

On the meeting with Samsung, Prasad mentioned that they explored various options and were pleased with the way things are progressing. "We are happy with the way vendors are reacting. TVS-E and Numeric have changed their method of providing back-ends to the channels. It's all a positive sign," he claimed.

Prasad said that the association was exploring various options like approaching the problem legally. "We have been exploring various options. Even vendors are exploring legal options as the problem seems to be a complex one," Prasad said. It seems that there are more chances for winning the case legally as partners get purchase-based rebates, which don't attract service taxes. "Their act doesn't come under business ancillary services, which attracts service tax. So we are confident in getting legal favor if at all we are take that route," Prasad pointed out.
