TeamLease Services, shared the findings of a study on 'CV Blunders' to lay
stress on an increasing need for error-free communication while presenting one's
credentials, qualifications and merits. The company analyzed more than 500
resumes across different levels, job profiles and industries over the month of
July 2009 and found that more than 90 percent of CVs had some or the other form
of error (grammatical, spelling, typo, etc).

“Candidates today are trying to make their resumes different and impressive,
so that they stand out. In the process, they end up making major blunders. It is
often funny, but the situation is sad and points a complete indifference to
importance of resume writing. A badly written resume ends up in the dustbin,
completely knocking out the candidate's chance of getting a job,” said Surabhi
Mathur-Gandhi, GM-Permanent Staffing, TeamLease Services.

The study that was conducted with various resumes received from different
cities, across industries and levels, observed that resumes are being written in
great haste, and no attention is paid to detail. Also, candidates in an attempt
to impress are going overboard, making a mockery of their bio-data in the
process. The study also discovers that many candidates do not realize that a
poorly written resume can severely affect their job prospects. The candidate
remains oblivious as to why he or she was rejected as companies generally do not
share the reasons behind rejection.

utilize the plethora of skills I have developed during my whole career

conjunction with the growth of the organization and to set a name and be

“The situation worsens when candidates make silly mistakes due to sheer
oversight and sometimes overconfidence. A CV is the first piece of information
about a candidate that reaches the potential recruiter. It is always advisable
to have one's bio-data proofread and checked by professionals, or someone
proficient in English,” Gandhi noted.

“Proper assessment, skill training and grooming are the need of the hour for
our workforce to gain an edge. Candidates need to be made 'job ready' and
training to present themselves better through verbal and non-verbal
communication will go a long way in shaping their career,” she pointed out.
