Dell launches Vostro 1220

Chennai: Dell has added a new model to its Vostro brand of laptops, specifically designed for the SMB segment

Addressing the press conference in Chennai, Ravi Bharadwaj, General Manager, SMB- Dell India shared, “According to IDC, 28 million SMBs in Asia Pacific region accounted for 18 percent of the total IT spend in 2008. During the year, the hardware spend of SMBs in India was $3.25 billion. This indicates that there is a huge market opportunity in the region for the same.”

There are 7.6 million registered SMBs in India, according to a report of AMI-Partners.

Dell stated that Vostro 1220 offers plethora of security options, like solid state drives that are three-times reliable than traditional hard drives, fingerprint readers with easy-to-use software, and multi-factor authentication and encrypted hard drives (TPM, FDE or wave software) that can easily encrypt data without impacting system performance. The laptop tracking and recovery system helps in tracking and recovering lost or stolen laptops, while remote data delete option enables deleting sensitive data if the laptop is lost or stolen.

Currently, Dell has about 180 channel partners across India reaching close to 200 cities in India. “As our business volume grows, we would expand our channel network,” Bharadwaj mentioned.

“Whenever required, Dell is committed to come to the user's place for service. Besides, we offer an advanced remote diagnostics service too,” said Shankar Vasudeva, Brand Manager, Dell India.
