If consumer is considered as the King, the channel community is the pillar on which the domestic IT industry rests. Today nearly 80 percent of the IT
business happens through the channel players. In order to recognize and merit the channel
community in South India, the DQ Week Chennai held the third annual Channel Awards night on August 18, 2004 where 36 awards were
given under six major categories across 16 cities of South India including
Chennai.

The DQ Week Chennai, a leading publication focusing on the issues and concerns of the channel community in South India, had instituted the Channel
Awards in 2002. The winners were adjudged by an eminent industry panel on various parameters like revenue, services, etc.

The channel partners were felicitated under four categories of awards-Retailer, Reseller, Systems Integrator and Sub Distributor. This year, Sub
Distribution Award was a new addition to the Channel Awards.

For the second consecutive time Access bagged the Best Retailer Award for
Chennai. In the System Integrator category, Infonet Solutions was awarded as the Most Promising System Integrator, whereas Precision Group bagged the
Best System Integrator award for Chennai. Additionally, CCS Infotech Ltd received the Best System Builder for South. Veeras Infotek
Pvt Ltd received the best Software Service Provider award, which is a new grouping this time
in the award category.

In the Reseller category for Chennai, where Delta Peripherals won the runner up award, the Best Reseller Award was given to Pelikan Office Automation.

Lastly in the Sub Distribution category, Devaraj Computers was the runner up for this category. Supreme Computers won the
Best Sub Distributor award for the third consecutive time. 

In the category for the Best Channel Partner for Tamil Nadu (excluding
Chennai), Bloom Electronics Pvt Ltd from Coimbatore won the Consistent Performer award and Compu Soft System (Coimbatore) received the Promising
Channel Partner in the city. The Best Channel Partner award for Madurai went to PC World, Cube Systems (Trichy), Vikram
Technologies (Erode), Avalon Data Products (Tirunelveli) and Auro Enterprises (Pondicherry). 

For the state of Andhra Pradesh, the awards covered three cities - Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. For Hyderabad, Micro Care Computers
was judged as the Best System Integrator, Vishal Peripherals as the Best Sub-distributor, Obel Computers Pvt Ltd was the Best Reseller, Youdan
Computers & Peripherals emerged as the Best Retailer and SP Software Pvt Ltd
received the Best Software Service Provider (South) award.

Innovative Information Technology was the winner for the second year in a row from Visakhapatnam. In Vijayawada the award went to Baid Electronics.
In Karnataka, the cities covered included Bangalore, Belgaum and Mangalore.

Network Solutions Ltd was the recipient for the Best System Integrator award from
Bangalore, Sri Durga Enterprises got the Best Sub Distributor award, Premier Computers got the Upcoming Sub-distributor award, Matrix
Technologies Inc (Best Reseller), Computer Planet (Best Retailer) and Connoiseur Electronics (P) Ltd was awarded as the Best System Builder.
Compu Aid got the Best Channel Partner from Belgaum and GS Distributors won the award for the city of
Mangalore.

Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, and Kozhikode were the cities covered in Kerala. Logtech Infoway Pvt Ltd for the third
consecutive time emerged as the Best channel partner of Thiruvananthapuram. For Cochin there were three awards.

International Marketing Company got the Best Sub distributor award, Positive Systems (Promising Channel Partner) and Nortech Infonet Pvt Ltd (Best System
Integrator). For Kozhikode the award went to Nisdon Infoway.

Samsung, Cisco and AMD had jointly supported the Channel Award program. In his address to the channel community, which had gathered for the award
night, Sanjay Peer, National Sales Manager of Samsung India recalled that innovation is the
way to earn money in this industry. "Future is in life style selling and not in PC selling. Today technology is about convergence
of mobility and entertainment," he said. 

The night also heard the three pronged strategy adopted by Cisco Systems for their partners. Delineating on the same,

said that under this program partners will have find out where they fit in best, whether in technology, partner model or opportunity model.

Similarly AMD has floated a web-based program called Triple A (Authentic AMD Associate Partner), where already 550 partners have registered, informed AMD
channel distribution manager Harish Bharia.
