Eastern IT group : Reinventing Itself

Kolkata-based Eastern IT Group's growth in FY'2008-09 might not have been a
fast-paced one at five percent. But the company had expected this when it
underwent a major restructuring process. It posted a turnover of Rs 160 crore in
FY'2008-09, up from Rs 152 crore the previous fiscal.

Promoted by JK Baid, Eastern Comnet started its operation as a distribution
unit in 1997 aiming to provide all types of networking and communication
solutions to corporates, SOHOs, SMEs, as well as public and private sector
companies. However, after a major restructuring exercise in the company, Eastern
IT has now forayed into the retail space and is thinking of venturing more into
networking solutions. With its strong distribution base and extensive pre and
post-sales support through its qualified technical team, the company has a reach
in entire eastern region.

In the last five years, Eastern Comnet has emerged as one of the leading
networking and communications company with full range of solutions in the East,
through its child company Epitome Networks. The latter bagged several deals in
West Bengal in the last year.

Since its inception, Eastern Comnet's strategic tie-up with the leading
networking companies like D-Link and Cisco has made possible for the company to
cater to the needs of all types of networking LAN/WAN/GAN/MAN requirements for
its customers. However, after the restructuring, Epitom has started to gain more
significance. It generated a gross revenue of Rs 9 crore in the last fiscal.

With a strategically placed base in Guwahati to cater to the customers in the
northeast, the company has also forayed into IT retailing with a retail plaza
named Eastern Infoway in Kolkata. In July 2008, the company entered into a new
partnership with Cyberoam as a regional distributor, although its main
distribution focus remained with D-Link products.
