EMC announces 25 new information infrastructure products

EMC has announced 25 new information infrastructure products to cater to
different verticals ranging from enterprise, SOHO and corporate. Pointing
towards this shift from the enterprise, Manoj Chugh, EMC Networks'
President-India and SAARC said," At present India alone is creating about
161 billion GB of information and this is expected to grow six times over the
next few years. This amount is significantly large and the key to manage this
mass of information is through managing growth, risk and innovation."

He further added that in the past an end-customer was merely satisfied with
the idea that a product was offering him scalability, reliability, speed and
feed. But this scenario has changed and customers now demand security and
protection of data. Hence the big challenge is to secure the information assets
that they own and archive the same.

In order to meet the above customer requirements EMC has devised an
Intelligent Information Infrastructure Strategy. Redigton India and Select
Technologies, EMC's national distributors, will offer these solutions in the
market.

Chugh added," Indian organizations of all sizes are looking to store,
protect, optimize and leverage information. EMC and our partners are there to
help them build an intelligent information infrastructure for competitive
advantage."

Out of the 25 products announced, 14 products have been devised for data
protection alone. The 25 new hardware and software solutions are targeted at
growing businesses to large enterprises across verticals in India. A number of
these products were collaboratively developed at the EMC India Center of
Excellence (CoE) in Bangalore, the company's largest software development
facility outside of North America.

The products announced include high end and mid-range storage arrays, data
protection software, information security software and content management
solutions. These products will serve as a tool for building an intelligent
information infrastructure.

Elaborating on these solutions, Ajaz Munssif, Director Products and
Solutions, EMC said that the whole idea was to offer end-to-end solutions.
"Companies today are looking at increasing efficiency. Thus while
installing any product or solution their major concern is how they make optimum
utilization of power and at the same time increase efficiency," he stated.

Hacking is another issue bothering enterprises world over and to deal with
it, EMC has designed products that will support data re-duplication. This aside,
technologies like RSA Fraudaction Anti Trojan Service and Envision will help in
securing the perimeter of an organisation and the entire information entity.

Talking about EMC's success in India, Chugh stated, "The fact that we
have shifted our focus from storage to security has boosted our business. Our
success can be gauged from the fact that in 2003 we had only 35 customers in
India but at present we boast of more than 900 customers." This aside
acquisition of companies like Avamar, Documentum and others has helped in the
company's transformation from merely providing storage to concentrating on
building a secured infrastructure for enterprises across the globe.

EMC recently opened its seventh office in the SAARC region at Hyderabad.
According to the EMC estimates, in 2007 the market for its information
infrastructure products and solutions in India across various segments - like
financial services, telecommunications, public sector, healthcare, discrete
manufacturing, retail and energy media and entertainment verticals exceeds $603
million. It estimates that the information infrastructure solution needs are
growing at more than 12 percent annually.

In addition, EMC also announced that 75 educational institutions in India
have entered the its Academy Program aimed at building resource pool of skilled,
industry ready information management and storage professionals in the country.
The pilot project for the academy programme was tested at Manipal University.
The School of Information Technology at Indraprastha University in New Delhi was
the 75th educational institution to join this program. Launched in India two
years ago, this program is expected to produce 10,000 graduates by 2010 to meet
the ever-increasing demand for information storage and management professionals
all over the world.
