EMC appoints Niranjan Thirumale

EMC Corporation has announced the
appointment of Niranjan Thirumale as CTO of the EMC India Center of
Excellence (COE). In this role, Niranjan will incubate advanced
research and technology development projects within the India COE and
raise the technical capabilities of the organization by working
closely with Sarv Saravanan, VP and MD, EMC India COE, and other
local business unit leaders to further develop the innovative culture
within the COE. He'll also work with EMC's Office of the CTO, led
by Jeff Nick, EMC Sr VP and Corporate CTO, on global technology
initiatives at the India COE such as university research
collaborations through the EMC Innovation Network. Niranjan will
also become a member of EMC's CTO council.

Commenting on the appointment,
Saravanan said, “Niranjan's appointment is part of our efforts to
strengthen the management team in India as we continue to grow our
center and enhance our delivery capabilities. As an experienced and
results-driven leader with a proven track record, we expect him to
contribute significantly to the mission of the EMC India COE which is
to ensure that our customers globally will receive the highest
quality service and standards to drive business results.” Prior to
joining India COE, Thirumale had worked at NetApp where he was the
founding member and technical leader of its Advanced Technology Group
in India and was responsible for driving innovation, long-term
vision. He also worked at IBM for over eight years in the US. At
work, Thirumale enjoys the challenge of solving tough problems,
setting and driving long-term agendas. Thirumale is an Engineer in
Computer
Science from IIT, Chennai. He also holds an MS Degree and PhD (in
File Systems) from State University of New York at Stony Brook. In
his free time he enjoys dabbling in 'street' photography. He has
recently started to learn the classical guitar and enjoys a game of
tennis.
