Emerson sets its eyes on telecom carriers

Emerson Network Power's recent acquisition of Marconi Power Business at a
global level has put the company in a unique position in the Indian market. This
acquisition will allow Emerson to strengthen its capability to serve telecom
customers with global power systems, solutions and services. Ohio-based Marconi
specializes in DC power products for telecommunication carriers. According to
Shrikant Bapat, Senior VP, Solutions, Emerson Network Power, India is ready to
witness the second phase of telecom infrastructure development by all telcos.
"This is where Macroni's role will come in. The next generation of
telecom infrastructure will run on DC power only, and we will be the only power
systems company to have this unique product," said Shrikant.

Emerson Network Power provides a spectrum of reliable power solutions,
including inbound power, connectivity, power supplies, power systems and
precision cooling. Emerson reached an agreement to acquire the outside plant and
power systems business of Marconi Corporation for $375 million in cash. Backed
by this acquisition, Emerson hopes to serve the needs of telecommunications
networks, data centers, health care and industrial facilities worldwide.

"Marconi's expertise in the DC power products will give Emerson an
extra edge and put us in a unique space which no other power system companies in
India has ventured so far," added Shrikant.
