Engineering college takes partners for a ride

In a shocking case of fraud, Ghaziabad-based Dolphin IT Solutions was taken
for a ride by Kanpur-based engineering college-Bhabha Institute of Technology.
With payments worth Rs 7.80 lakh pending, Kuldeep Taliyan of Dolphin IT
Solutions filed a case against the institute to procure the amount.

What makes the matter worse is that Dolphin is not the lone IT supplier
bearing the brunt. Delhi-based Shri Paras Engineering and another supplier also
have yet to receive their pending payments. According to sources, the institute
had placed orders for two of its other colleges, which are yet to receive an
approval to begin working.

Talking about the issue, Taliyan said, “I had supplied 75 computers, UPS and
other IT products for a computer lab that was to be built on the premises of the
institute. The institute was supposed to make a total payment of Rs 7.80 lakh,
out of which they had issued cheques for Rs 7 lakh. The party stated that they
would pay the balance amount of Rs 80,000 at a later date. However, the cheques
bounced.”

Mahesh Singh Chouhan, Chairman, Bhabha Institute of Technology had placed an
order with Dolphin in the month of April. When the cheque bounced, Taliyan
approached the institute but was turned away. “Chouhan kept delaying the
payments and never bothered to receive my calls,” said Taliyan. This continued
for three months after which Taliyan filed a case against the institute.

When DQ Channels tried contacting Chouhan on his mobile, he did not receive
the calls. On getting in touch with the college authorities, Gaurav Singh, the
Vice Chairman, who is also a relative of Chouhan, denied all allegations. He
further stated that he had gotten in touch with Taliyan and resolved the issue.
“As far as payments against the orders are concerned, we have already made the
payments and only a sum of Rs 1 lakh is due from our end,” said Singh.
