Together with keynote speakers from the 3LCD Group USA and Epson South and Southeast Asian Regional Headquarters, media partners were treated to valuable insights into the booming market of digital projection, as well as key differences amongst major projector technologies in the market today.

In a span of 20 years, since Epson's launch of the world's first 3LCD projector, the global projector industry has become a multi-billion dollar market. In 2006, this industry's market value of projection displays stood at $18 billion and is forecasted to grow to about $30 billion in 2013.

Leading this expansion is the market's adoption of Epson's 3LCD chips as 'technology of choice' for projectors. It commands more than 60 percent of world-wide marketshare today, with more than 50 million chips sold world-wide in 2008. Behind its 20-year track record, is the unique ability of 3LCD projectors to deliver unbelievably bright and natural color, amazing detail and road-tested reliability.

Epson designed the 3LCD projector system by using a combination of diachronic mirrors to break the white light from the lamp into red, green and blue light. Each of the three colors of light is then passed through its own LCD panel and then recombined by a diachronic prism before being projected onto the screen.

This sophisticated system configuration results in smooth-moving images with rich, full color, since all three basic colors are included in each pixel of the projected image at all times.

In February 2009, international market research firm, Futuresource Consulting testified to this track record, that for eight consecutive years, from 2001 to 2008, Epson's market share of projectors had grown at an impressive 77 percent (since 2001), resulting in an unprecedented achievement of 20.62 percent of the digital projectors market world-wide. In South and Southeast Asia, Epson 3LCD projectors command a leading 11.6 percent share of a highly fragmented market of more than 30 competing brands.
