Cadence India which deals with
semiconductors, consumer electronics and other related cargoes wanted
to centralize their entire R&D department. The company, which is
headquartered in USA, produces software and hardware methodologies
and services to design and verify networking and telecommunications
equipment, and computer systems. In India, Cadence has its presence
in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Noida which are its regional
headquarters. By centralizing their R&D department, they wanted
to enable their employees to work only on the central server thereby
enhancing the internal communication structure.

CLIENT REQUIREMENT

Cadence wanted to decrease the
infrastructure cost and increase the productivity by centralizing its
R&D process. Since most of the R&D team members of the
company were based in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the management was left
with
no choice but to take a decision of shifting base of all these users
to Noida. They had to take this decision on the basis of investment,
manpower and willingness of its employees to change geographies. The
company directly interacted with Bengaluru-based Logix Microsystems,
to implement this solution. href="http://www.dqweek.com/Logix-to-concentrate-on-channels">Logix
Microsystems is one of the leaders
in interactive automotive solutions. The company offers hi-tech
automotive e-retailing solutions, targeted at the automotive retail
market in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Claiming to own the world's
largest collection of Automotive Images and Animation, namely
izmoStudio, Logix is a Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific
company for three years in a row. Besides its primary focus over
automotive solutions, the company is also present in the Enterprise
Software space, with connectivity and security products. Logix swung
into action and instructed the technical team in Cadence to evaluate
a possible solution which will allow the Bengaluru and Hyderabad
R&D
teams to operate from existing locations. One likely solution was
that, 'secure remote access' will be linked to their application
servers hosted in Nodia and employees perform their task from the
same locations or virtual office. Cadence's requirement was to
provide R&D users secure remote access to remote server with near
to real-time response with application servers to access graphical
applications.

CHALLENGES

One glaring hitch was the network. As
per first impression for secure remote access, the technical team
started evaluating VPN connectivity to Cadence's Noida office. This
will result in high bandwidth utilization and unacceptable
performance with due latency in the network response. After having a
thorough understanding of the requirement, Logix came up with a
solution called 'OpenText Exceed onDemand' on Ultra Thin X
connectivity. Exceed onDemand is a remote access enablement solution
for X window
applications. It overcomes geographical barriers and connects
disparate resources and user communities while delivering high
performance and productivity features. Exceed onDemand has become the
most dependable managed Enterprise application access solution on
the market today that organizations can count on for faster
time-to-market, compliance with corporate policies and government
regulations while reducing operational costs.

SOLUTION

Even though the solution started small,
today the project is worth almost a crore of rupees. The entire
implementation took almost two and a half months time. Logix
recommended Exceed onDemand, which is a remote X application delivery
platform designed for Microsoft Windows, Linux and UNIX desktop
users. It is deliberately created for the business environment of the
modern enterprise where employees are geographically dispersed,
resources and time are limited, and budgets are tightly controlled.
Sanjay Soni, MD, Logix Microsystems said, “Cadence wanted a
solution which could consume less bandwidth and yet allow the users
to work from any location.

This ensured freedom to users without
compromising on either quality or performance.” The team selected
this solution since it can work on very low bandwidth with secure
remote connectivity with almost real-time performance to
the user, allowing end-users mobility to work from anywhere and
anytime. By the time the solution was implemented, Cadence was
well-impressed with the final outcome.

CLIENT SPEAK

“We are extremely glad to associate
with Logix. Before this, we were using 'Attachment'. But today I can
say that Exceed is far better in performance and quality and I would
certainly recommend this,” said Saravanan, Senior Manager-IT,
Cadence India. The company's requirement of providing its R&D
users secure remote access to server was met and today users can
access from any location.

END RESULT

Today Cadence enjoys server-based
license in form of open text license. They have standardized business
across worldwide, which gives the user freedom to cross geographies,
yet stay connected. Soni concluded, “Though we started small, we
were sure on delivery. We understood Cadence's requirement and always
kept that in mind. In my opinion the only reason for our success lies
in our approach.”
