ERP here to stay: CIOL symposium

Will enterprise resource planning (ERP) ever be obsolete with
the advent of new technologies? No, said the symposium jointly organized by
Cyber India Online Ltd (CIOL) and Microsoft Dynamics.

The symposium was organized in an attempt to inform business
houses in and around Nagpur about the latest technologies in IT sector viz., ERP.
'Database and integration won't become obsolete. Therefore, ERP can't
become obsolete either,' was the refrain of the symposium.

Concerns were raised on the high cost involved in ERP
implementation. A panel discussion on this subject pointed out that around 30%
of man-hours are wasted on unnecessary work. ERP will streamline all activities
and helping strategies, which would translate into cost cutting.

In his keynote address, Mohan Agarwal, President, Vidarbha
Industries Association (VIA), said that Nagpur is becoming the business hub
owing to the presence of SEZs and STPs. Prashant Garg, Director, Diffusion
Engineers, SN Maheshwari, Director, Indo Worth, Amit Kumar, GM-IT of Ispat
Industries and R Sekar, Head MIS of BP Ergo Ltd participated in the panel
discussion. Ashit Sinha, treasurer of VIA, delivered the valedictory address.
