According to the Industry Performance Review released by ManufacÂturers
Association of IT (MAIT) and IMRB, the buoyant mood in IT consumption was led by
significant growth in notebook sales, which grew by 59 percent, although
consumption of desktops grew by only three percent. PC sales are projected to
cross 7.25 million units in 2007-08, given the steady buying sentiment in the
market.

education and BPO/IT-enabled services, and the e-governance initiatives of the
Union and the state governÂments,” said Vinnie Mehta, Executive Director, MAIT.
Multinational brands accounÂted for 48 percent of the total desktop market in
H1 2007-08, registering a growth of 33 percent over the same period last year.
The proportion of Indian brands fell from 23 percent to 17 percent registering a
YoY decline of 24 percent.
Households, for the first time, contributed to 38 percent of the total
desktop market registering a growth of 72 perÂcent over H1 2006-07. Consumption
in business segment accounted for 62 percent of the total desktop sales compared
to 77 percent in the same period previous year.
Servers registered a growth of 50 percent over the first-half of the previous
FY. Overall printer sales at 0.68 million units declined by 10 percent during H1
2007-08 over the same period in fiscal 2006-07. The study involved face-to-face
interviews with over 24,500 respondents selected randomly across 22 cities in
India.
