HCL Infosystems is all set to launch the NEOPod in the Indian market on September 15, informed HCL Infosystems' Chairman and CEO, Ajay
Chowdhry.Â
According to him, this launch is in line with the company's research which indicates that music on the move category is expected to grow significantly
in the country in the next 12 to 24 months and the company is looking for a piece of this action.
The NEOPod is a portable digital music player of the size of a cigarette pack with 20 GB memory and capacity to story
10,000 songs. It will be available in two to three versions and would be priced between Rs 22,000 to
Rs 24,000. The company is in talks with some Indian music companies for content.
The `Digital Media Apadtor' - a wireless set top kind of box is the next product to be launched. Chowdhry was in Pune to launch a slew of products in
the computer and entertainment space. This included the convergence digital product the Beanstalk NEO that is a LCD TV, MP3/CD player, live radio and
TV, web browser, gaming device, photo editor and DVD players -- all in one for Rs 99,000 on a single flat screen. HCL also launched digital cameras,
MP3 devices and an interactive white board for the office market. The digital media adaptor will enable playing of anything from the Beanstalk NEO
to any other digital device at home.
Chowdhry said that the foray into convergence products would be through HCL's branded franchisees. Experience zones are also being created to offer
customers the touch and feel experience.
