Hitachi launches expanded portfolio of NAS platforms

Bangalore: Hitachi has announced major moves to expand the company's
portfolio of High-performance NAS Platforms. Two new models-the Hitachi
High-performance NAS Platform 2000 Nearline and the Hitachi High-performance NAS
Platform 2000 have been added to the existing portfolio.

Said John Mansfield, senior VP, Global Solutions Strategy and Development,
Hitachi Data Systems. "With the announcement, we are bringing all of these
advanced storage services to our expanded NAS platform portfolio enabling
customers to reduce data storage costs, mitigate risks and improve productivity
for their business."

For customers requiring high-performance, yet cost effective disk-to-disk
data storage for a secondary site or large data repository, the Hitachi
High-performance NAS Platform 2000 Nearline scales up to 2 petabytes and bridges
the gap for customers torn between choosing slow but low-cost tape or fast but
higher-cost fiber channel storage systems. Supported by the high-capacity Serial
ATA (SATA)-based Hitachi Workgroup Modular Storage system, the new
High-performance NAS Platform 2000 Nearline provides customers a set of advanced
storage services that can lower overall data storage costs including tiered
storage and backup. Customers can use the Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform
2000 Nearline to replicate data from a primary site to an offsite nearline
location where they can retrieve the information rapidly if needed.

Enhancements to the new platform include deeper integration with Hitachi
storage management software - Hitachi HiCommand storage management software
suite.

Hitachi High-performance NAS Platforms will now support the new 64-bit SCSI
addressing changes that allow for larger LUN support for up to 64 terabytes.
Additionally, the Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform now delivers a four-fold
increase in overall usable system capacity. The new clusters will scale up to
eight nodes, providing 2 petabytes of capacity per node or per cluster.

The Hitachi High-performance NAS Platforms offer an active-active GeoCluster
up to 100 kilometers in distance. This breaks down traditional geographic
limitations of active-active replication solutions and provides customers with
the flexibility, control and redundancy to meet their most stringent business
continuity requirements.

For customers that converge multiple networks, users, and departmental
requirements on the same Hitachi NAS platform, Hitachi delivers new software
that extends enhanced security capabilities to Virtual Servers. The software
provides multi-domain support across all enterprise virtual servers, up to a
total of 64 virtual servers per entity-allowing resources to be securely
isolated and provisioned safely.
