"IT Service Management (ITSM) is one of the key elements towards
realizing one's vision of an adaptive enterprise," said Peter van der
Fluit, VP, Hewlett-Packard for Worldwide Software. This was during his keynote
address to a gathering of customer and media from across Asia Pacific at the 'HP
OpenView ITSM Insight Days' held in Bangkok.

According to Peter, there cannot be anyone better than HP in providing ITSM
solutions because it has achieved the top slot in everything it does in the ITSM
space. "HP's commitment to ITSM shows in the fact that we are leaders in
the software (OpenView), consulting and integration services, reference model,
education services and managed services."

HP's OpenView business has grown 36% year-on-year, which is more growth
than the combined growth of BMC, CA and IBM put together in the service
management space. "We are taking marketshare with our approach around the
adaptive enterprise and the management role within that," he said.

HP's software business from the revenue perspective has not only gained
marketshare from our competitors, but also gaining share percentage-wise within
HP in terms of the total revenue. HP is looking at manageability in the broader
perspective. "Clearly, service management, is really catching up more
across the global. Today, customer awareness has increased from 'What is ITSM?'
to 'How can I implement ITSM?'," he added.

The ITSM awareness is growing faster than expected is also evident from the
fact that participants for the 'HP OpenView ITSM Insight Days' has grown
three times in the last three years since inception of this event. In India ITSM
has evolved from AMCs to IT services to consultancy services to technology
support.

According to Bithin Talukdar, Market Development and Alliance Manager, HP
Software in India, ITSM is just the beginning but will continue to grow the way
it has evolved so far. "About three to four years back nobody was aware of
ITSM. Today the awareness level has increased by 60% to 70% and people are
actually implementing ITSM solutions." he added.

Besides presenting HP's latest ITSM strategy and solutions updates, the
event also got IT Service Management Forum (itSMF) CEO Aidan Lawes to give
important insights into ITIL and effective service management. Real case studies
of how ITSM has been implemented in corporations across Asia were present at the
meet to understand how HP solutions can help businesses act more effectively.

ITSM may not be something that can be understood overnight, however, HP had a
unique way of educating participants about ITSM. It was the exciting Formula
One-based HP ITSM Simulation game which participants played.
