HP unveils quad-core workstations

Bangalore: Hewlett-Packard India has announced the launch of its latest Quad
core workstations targeted especially at the animation industry.

The new range includes HP xw8600, xw6600 and xw4600 workstation series, which
promise optimal power to meet the high-end computing demands of business.

HP has already launched globally the Blade workstation solution. The India
launch is scheduled next year, informed Anurag Gupta, country manager-
Workstations, HP.

"With Quad Core customers will benefit from the technology and can do more
things at the same time. The latest workstations will cater to the wide range of
applications including software design, architecture, high-definition video,
game development, scientific imaging and oil exploration," said Gupta
addressing the media here.

The latest workstations are 90 per cent recyclable by weight. "We are trying
to meet the standards set by Energy Star 4.0. The latest workstations comes with
more that 80 per cent efficient power supplies," he added.

"These workstations are initially targeted at the three metros Chennai,
Bangalore and Hyderabad as they are the hubs for the animation industry. We have
also tied up with Solidworks, Nvidia and AutoDesk to provide an integrated
solution to the consumers," informed Deepti Dang head of marketing, PSG
commercial and SMB, HP.

"With these solutions specially build for animation industry, the customers no
longer have to travel abroad to get done an animation project. With this high
computing workstations the Indians can enjoy high graphic computing here,"
Dang added.

Next generation quad core and dual core Xeon processors power the HP xw8600 and
xw6600 series. The xw4600 workstation combines a choice of next generation Intel
Core 2 Duo and Intel Quad Core processors to support the data —intensive
applications. These workstations also features Performance Tuning Framework and
Remote Graphics Software.

The new workstations are expected to begin shipping in mid-December this year.
The xw8600 and xw6600 will be priced starting at Rs 75000 and xw4600 is priced
at Rs 42000.
