What has been Unisys' role in the
Indian market?
Unisys India has
scaled up tremendously in terms of headcount and infrastructure, as
well as capabilities to become an integral part of the Unisys global
delivery organization. Today, we have 3 state-of-the-art facilities;
2 in Bengaluru and 1 in Hyderabad. Unisys has worked with Air India
for more than 30 years to provide services and technology-the
Unisys Passenger Service System and ClearPath Dorado servers. Unisys
was the master system integrator for Terminal 3 of DIAL, where we
achieved on-time opening of the terminal during the 2010 Commonwealth
Games. Unisys was responsible for developing detailed operational
procedures for various control centers at the airport, testing the IT
systems, and verifying that the integrated IT platform meet the
necessary requirements.
How has been
the performance of the company in the last fiscal? Please mention
about some of the major deals bagged?
In 2010, Unisys
made continued progress against our priorities. We sharpened our
focus, with outstanding solutions for our clients in the areas of
security, data center trans formation and outsourcing, end-user out
sourcing and application modernization. These solutions are enabling
us to win new engagements to help our clients deal with the
disruptive trends associated with cloud computing, cybersecurity,
mobile computing, social computing, smart computing/ intelligent
analytics, and IT appliance offerings. In addition, we have invested
in building worldclass IT outsourcing, system integration and
technological skills, infrastructure, and products to enhance our
services and solutions that are delivered around the world. Key deals
in APAC and globally in 2011 include-Stealth Data Encryption at
Hertz, New Zealand; innovative point of sale solution at New
Zealand's largest grocery distributor Foodstuffs; domestic baggage
reconciliation solution for Qantas; IT support for Air France;
application development and systems integration for NASA; email and
collaboration for the US General Services Administration and the USDA
Agriculture Administration.
What are the
industry verticals that you cater to? Are you looking to tap some
more industry verticals?
The last 3 years
have seen Unisys India transform itself into a replica of Unisys
Global, albeit a smaller version. A good part of everything that
happens at Unisys is happening in Unisys India. It cuts across all
verticals, portfolio items and functional areas. We are targeting
specific growth opportunities for Unisys within India. We are focused
on working with key alliance partners to serve global accounts that
have a presence in India in the public sector, transportation
(aviation) and financial services vertical industries. India also
plays a critical role in the Unisys global sourcing strategy,
providing services to many international clients. Unisys Global
Sourcing India (UGSI) has the largest contingent of Unisys global
offshore delivery resources.
You have global delivery centers
across the world. How is the delivery center in India different from
the centers in other geographies?
There is
tremendous focus on Unisys today on leveraging offshore models. From
that perspective, India is at the center of the activities. We
represent about one-sixth of Unisys population around the world.
India is a key component of our cost efficient global delivery model
and is consistent in providing high level of client service and
satisfaction. Unisys India excels in the role of field operations and
public sector and possesses a very strong infrastructure management.
Could you talk about your
partnership with the airline industry, and the services you render
through that partnership?
From airport
management to passenger facilitation, Unisys airport solutions have
helped hundreds of airports around the world streamline, integrate
and secure operations to meet the needs of passengers, regulators and
private business partners. Asia Pacific airport clients
include-Beijing Capital International Airport, New Delhi Indira
Gandhi International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International
Airport. Our solutions for airlines include baggage reconciliation,
cloud-based cargo management services and data center services. Some
of our airline clients in Asia Pacific include Air China, Air India,
Board of Airline Representatives Australia, TravelSky and Qantas. We
have an established presence in the Indian aviation sector. Unisys
was appointed by Delhi International Airport, as master systems
integrator for the entire airport and systems integrator for the new
Terminal 3 project.
What sort of services do the global
service centers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad provide?
You are likely to
see a representation from most of the departments and business units,
be it product development, application design and migration, service
desk, enterprise computing, ITIL processes, field operations,
back-office or extensions of various Unisys corporate functions in
our Bengaluru and Hyderabad offices. India is an important part of
the Unisys managed services centers, of the supported outsourcing
business for service desk and is a crucial part of Unisys application
modernization. A lot of Unisys engineering in the technology business
is also delivered out of India. The Unisys LEIDA (Library of eID
Artifacts) team that creates building blocks for our ID&C
solutions, is based in Bengaluru. The team has played a key role in
international Unisys ID&C projects involving biometrics, eg
Angola National ID, Mexico National ID project, Australian Dept of
Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC), and Queensland smartcard
drivers license (Australia).
