Intel and HCL are Classmates now

At 'Satrang-the many colors of Intel India', the Intel India top brass,
dressed in traditional Indian kurtas, got together to unveil their ambitious
educational initiative-the Classmate PC. With HCL Infosystems as the first OEM
in India, this smaller format little schoolbag look-alike 1.45kg machine is
aimed at changing the way kids study.

Compact, and available in vivid colors, each Classmate PC features a 7-inch
LCD screen, 215 to 512MB RAM with 1GB to 2GB flash memory, Intel Processor
900Mhz, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, and is available with both Windows and
Linux OS. Wipro and Zenith will also offer the Classmate PC in India, while
Creative Infotech will offer it in Bangalore.

The Classmate comes with a special feature that allows student-teacher,
parent-teacher collaboration so that there is control of usage and monitoring of
progress. Expected to be priced at Rs 18,000, HCL is looking at deploying around
3,000-5,000 Classmates in the next 9-12 months, starting August.
