IPL fever grips Compass expo

Kolkata: Much hoopla has been surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the past few weeks with the IPL board firm changing the schedule and venues of the matches. Coupled with that was the dates of the general election which would be held simultaneously across the country. Now, Compass has called off its expo apprehending poor footfall due to IPL and taking into consideration the elections, which may raise security concerns. Sources in Compass revealed that primarily due to the IPL schedule, the IT association was forced to rethink its scheduled date. Coupled with that, as the nation is about to face the Lok Sabha elections, security concerns have risen. Also, the ground that Compass was planning to hold its expo on is usually used for elections, so a clash was expected there as well.

“At a time like this we cannot risk holding an IT expo as it might lead to low footfall. Our members are not keen on going on with the expo. Also, in times of election, Netaji Indoor Stadium (Compass expo venue) will be packed with voting machine and related equipment. We foresee that with the increased number of police force in the venue there may be parking problems as well,” a source said.
