IT dealers hope for deliverance from tax increase

The Karnataka body for IT dealers- Association for Information Technology(AIT) is hopeful that the government would reverse its decision to
increase the sales tax on computer hardware from four percent to 13.8 percent.

According to AIT secretary R Sridhar, Wipro chief Azim Premji and others are currently in talks with the state finance
minister Siddaramaiah, revenue department and commercial tax officials to discuss the issue in-depth. Tax
on hardware and annual maintenance contract would figure prominently on the agenda.

"Since the minister mentioned yesterday that he was committed to resolving the issue, we are confident that something positive
in terms of a reduction in tax would be announced by the government on August 15," said Sridhar.
