Juniper intros MX-series Ethernet routers

Juniper Networks expanded the range of interface cards for its MX-series
portfolio of Ethernet Services Routers with the addition of three new
interchangeable dense port concentrator (DPC) families. With increased
flexibility to support a wider range of Ethernet network architectures in both
the enterprise and service provider markets, Juniper's MX-series provides
customers with the ability to expand and accelerate the deployment of
carrier-class Ethernet networks and services-reducing cost and complexity in
additional parts of the network.

The MX-series family uses the single source-code based JUNOS software, which
delivers advanced Ethernet Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM)
capabilities and features that simplify the deployment and management of
Ethernet services in large scale networks. The combination of the MX-series
next-generation hardware platforms, new interface options and JUNOS further
advance the economics, performance and scalability of carrier-class Ethernet,
while also reducing costs and complexity.

The Tri-rate Ethernet and 20 Gbps DPCs are available immediately; the
multi-rate DPCs are expected to become available in the second half of 2008.
