Thiruvananthapuram: The IT department in Kerala, keeping in line with its plans to set up technology parks in smaller towns away from the din and bustle of the main cities, is all set to go ahead with its Infotech Park at Koratty in Thrissur. The Koratty park will function under the Kochi Infopark.
The Koratty IT park, work for which was kick started by Minister for Revenue KP Rajendran in January, is expected to see a formal launch in November with the first phase to be ready for occupation soon. The state government has already allotted a 42-acre plot for the modern IT park with world-class infrastructure facilities. The park is expected to act as a rejuvenating shot in the arm for Koratty, once known for its major industrial units.
Koratty Infopark is 45 km away from Kochi and approximately 14 km from the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery. The close proximity to the airport and National Highway with uninterrupted power, water and connectivity has already generated keen interest, especially among IT entrepreneurs and SMEs, to commence operations from Infopark. The IT park will provide single window clearance and all infrastructure facilities, on similar lines as Kakkanad.
According to Ajay Kumar, IT Secretary, government of Kerala, “With the upcoming Infopark at Koratty, we are aiming at tapping the talent pool and entrepreneurship skills in and around Thrissur, giving them an opportunity to succeed in their hometown.”
“Apart from the current two phases which are being built as per the Smart Business Center Concept, design for a signature IT building incorporating the green building concept will be announced soon,” said Siddhartha Bhattacharya, CEO, Infopark.
“The proposed IT building will be designed to blend with the existing architecture of the place and provide a beautiful and inspiring atmosphere for future companies,” he added.
This apart, the developed plots will be offered to interested co-developers in the second phase. When completed, the park is expected to offer a direct employment potential of around 6,000 IT professionals.
