Maoist violence disturbs trade in Bengal

Lalgarh: West
Bengal's Lalgarh,
Midnapore region has been witnessing an upsurge in maoist violence.
The violence has made the channel partners in the region a worried
lot.

Commenting
on the on going
crisis, Burdwan-based Shiv Shankar Ray of Digital Computer Systems
said, "Until now, there has not been any ill-effects on business.
It is going at its normal pace but I apprehend that the worst is
still to come. The state administration is blaming the Naxals for the
crisis, but I am of the opinion that the administration and all
political parties in the state are equally responsible for the tense
situation prevailing now. In the entire state, soon the effects of
the Maoists will be felt which may majorly affect trading in the
state."

Supporting
Ray's
statements, Purulia-based Prakash Kedia of Kedia Computers said,
"Until now, business has going on as normal, but I fear that this
normalcy prevail will not prevail much longer. I fear that the
situation will worsen soon."

Citing
the issue to be
sensitive and political in nature, most channel partners across the
state refused to share comments. However, the general feeling was
that the administration needs to be a bit more pro-active in
combating such situations and predicted that soon the waves of
Lalgarh will be felt in the state capital itself which may disrupt
normal life with repeated bandhs and related agitations already
plaguing the state. It is further expected that business may go for a
toss soon if the situation is not brought under control urgently.
