Microsemi Corporation is aggressively targeting the Indian channels with
their PowerDsine suite of Power over Ethernet (PoE) mid span solutions.
According to Vikas Pinjarkar, Country Manager- India, Microsemi, the PowerDsine
range of PoE midspans from Microsemi are getting popular among the networking
and security system integrators, since it allows them to offer a cost effective
PoE solutions to their end users.
"End users need to discard their existing LAN infrastructure (non PoE
switches) in order to roll out IP phones, wireless access points, IP based video
surveillance products, WiMax products etc. Thus it is a win-win situation,"
he said.
Given its expansion plans, Microsemi plans to utilize the resources of
Redington and its SI partners in the networking arena and is targeting the top
150 system integrators in the country. Meeting up with them and educating them
about its product lines is top on the vendor's agenda.
Redington has already started stocking Microsemi stock in Chennai to make the
turn around time of deliveries faster. "We are also planning a half day
training programs for all these system integrators, so that they gets an
opportunity to feel the products and get to know the latest up dates on the PoE
technology and its unique value proposition," indicated Pinjarkar.
Microsemi operates world wide through its distributors, and has adopted the
same model in India by engaging with Redington and Anixter. The tie up with
Redington came through in January 2008 for distribution of their PoE line of
products in India.
Commenting on the same, Pinjarkar said, "PowerDsine offers a complete
PoE line of products including Midspans and PoE Integrated chip sets implemented
in all major Ethernet switch vendors. Redington is one of the largest networking
distributors, distributing leading vendors like Cisco, who tested and approved
the PowerDsine PoE Midspans to be used in Cisco existing applications."
Anxiter helps the company cover the security industry, where its products can
be used to power IP cameras making the installation in the most simple and
quickest way, with minimum downtime. Anixter is distributing our PoE Midspans in
whole of APAC, and they have dedicated resources to sell our products.
As a strategy the Microsemi partners with the biggest networking distributors
in the country it is targeting, since the distributor can offer a complete range
of end terminals, which can be powered using its PoE Midspans. Apart from
Redington and Anixter, Microsemi has Wipro and3D Networks as its direct
strategic partners.
"This partnership happened even before we signed up with Redington, to
cater to the major project business. We feel that we have now all the necessary
tie ups in the country and need not to bother about signing up with any new
partners," Pinjarkar added.
As a part of their strategy, Microsemi is focusing on top six cities where
maximum installations are taking place. These include Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune,
Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi. As far as upcountry market is concerned the
company plans to go through their distributors since they have operations all
across the country.
