Chennai-based retailer Modern Computers has expanded its operations by opening three retail outlets across the city, taking its showroom count to 13. “ We keep increasing our retail outlets every year. For the current FY, we opened three retail outlets and are planning to open one more before the end of this quarter,” informed K Gopinath, CEO, Modern Computers.
In order to keep a check on the total retail operations, the company has deployed an ERP solution for the back-end operations with an investment of Rs 15 lakh. “Retail operations are not that easy to maintain. As we increase our presence, managing the total operations becomes a huge issue. For connecting the operations, we deployed an ERP solution, and now I am viewing every single transaction from my desktop through online billing solution,” Gopinath informed.
Modern Computer has employed 70 hardware engineers for customer service. “In our industry, customers blame only dealers and not vendors if there are any issues pertaining to the product sold. We are at the risk of losing our brand image and there is a strong need to concentrate on the after-sales part. For this reason, we have employed over 70 engineers especially to take care of after sales support,” he claimed.
The company has given more priority for the suburbs and is increasing its suburb operations than focusing on the city. “We are present in almost all the suburb in Chennai and that is our focus area, as we found that people find difficult to reach the city for even a small hardware requirement and started to focus more on those areas. Our sales have supported our decision, as we do a huge business in suburbs when compared to the showrooms in the city,” Gopinath averred.
They recently concluded a stand-alone laptop expo which got doos response, according to the company. “We conduct an expo every quarter and have been doing this for four years successfully in various locations of Chennai. We display over 100 laptop models in these expos which has found great favor amongst customers,” he claimed.
