Oracle Open World: High on business, low on tech

Oracle Open World is
Oracle's global business and technology conference, hosted in India and to be
followed up in Tokyo later in the year. There was a lot of business and little
of technology at the event. Indeed, Grid computing was a big thing - Oracle
released a Grid Index Report in which India was adopting Grid computing quite
swiftly - and so was Fusion, the next level of enterprise platform from Oracle.

Company officials were
quite keen to impress how 'amazing' Fusion was. Oracle wants to displace IBM
from its leadership position in this space, and is winning quite many deals for
Fusion Middleware (Applications based on Open Standards for enterprise systems),
over 100 customers in India, like, Ashok Leyland, eSeva (Government of Andhra
Pradesh), Dr. Reddy's, HDFC Bank, National Stock Exchange, etc. It has also
around 28,000 clients worldwide for Fusion Middleware.

Oracle also seems to be quite bullish on the e-governance
space; there were lot of sessions and events that highlighted Oracle's work in
the space. They even presented the 'Oracle Excellence in e-Governance
Awards' at the Open World.
