With the objective to create awareness on the usage of authentic products
and to put a check on the business of software piracy, Kaspersky, a Russia-based
anti-virus software and Internet security software solution provider is taking
action against resellers propagating pirated software.
Zoom Technologies, importers of Kaspersky in India, has gone ahead and taken
legal action against the dealers who are involved in selling counterfeit and
pirated software.
Recently, Zoom Technologies along with its authorized Northeast distributor,
raided the premises of Guwahati-based Info-Care and has arrested the owner of
the company Prasenjit Mahapatra. The raid was done by Anti-Counterfeiting Wing
of Police.
“The showroom, offices and stores were raided on the evidences that was
gathered on-site. The owner has been booked under various sections of the Indian
Penal Code. According to police sources the seriousness of the situation viz IPC
sections under which the offenders have been booked, are such that the
culprit/culprits, as the case may be, will not get bail for at least six
months,” stated Aadil Haveliwala, Head-Kaspersky Division, Zoom technologies, in
a mail that has been circulated to Progressive Channels Association of IT (PCAIT)
members.
