PCAIT deserves four (not three) cheers

The temperature in the capital is soaring into the mid forties.
But the news filtering in from PCAIT (Progressive Channels' Association of
Information Technology), Delhi's premier and respected body of channel
partners, is pretty cool.

In a very short span of time, it has managed to achieve feats
that none of the other channel associations have achieved till date. Precisely
for this reason I said above that this body deserves four cheers and not three.

The first cheer is for successfully completing one year of its
existence. PCAIT was formally unveiled in March 2005 in a formal gathering of
close to 300 channel partners. Fifteen like-minded people from the capital's
channel community came together to form this august body with the mission-work
together, build together, progress together.

The second cheer is for catching Sanjay Gupta of Gravis
Computers who decamped with more than Rs 2 crore, which he owed to Nehru Place
resellers. Out of this Rs 55 lakh belonged to PCAIT members. So, the association
took it up in the earnest and along with the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi
Police, managed to apprehend the culprit. This is the first time a culprit who
ran away after defrauding Delhi's channel community has been caught.

The third cheer is for working closely with Microsoft to promote
legal software. It is learnt that PCAIT is on the verge of signing a formal
agreement with the software giant, which will be mutually beneficial to both
Microsoft as well as the PCAIT members. Interestingly, it was Microsoft that
came up with a formal request for the agreement.

The fourth cheer is for Delhi Government inviting PCAIT to
nominate some members who will be a part of the trade and commerce delegation to
Moscow being led by Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi. Other industry
bodies that have been invited to join the delegation include CII and NASSCOM.
Here again it was the Government, which approached PCAIT.

So, to sum up, one year of existence and four big achievements.
Undoubtedly, PCAIT has more than justified its existence. However, this was the
easiest part. The hard part of the act follows. The association has set such
high standards that everybody will have very high expectations, which is
something it will be hard-pressed to fulfill. But at the moment, no praise is
too high for this band of brothers in arms. It's applause time and they
deserve every bit of the four cheers, which I said in the beginning.
