PowerDsine to evangelize PoE in India

Israel-based PowerDsine, a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, is
all geared up to popularize the concept of Power over Ethernet (PoE) in the
Indian market. The company, which recently started its operations in India, has
some unique PoE offerings for the Indian market.

PoE is a technology for wired ethernet. PoE allows the electrical power
necessary for the operation of each end-device, to be carried by data cables
rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must
be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime,
easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.

PowerDsine designs, develops and supplies integrated circuits, modules and
systems that enable the implementation of PoE in local area networks, providing
the capability to deliver and manage electrical power over data network cables.

VIKAS PINJARKAR: Seeking channel support to grow PoE business in India

Vikas Pinjarkar, who currently heads the India operation as Country Manager
said, “In today's marketplace, opportunities for PoE technology exist in
applications that require consolidated power and data. PoE is a strong enabler
of VoIP, wireless LAN and bluetooth access points and IP security and network
cameras.”

According to Pinjarkar, PoE technology-based solutions are expected to grow
substantially in the coming years because of the new power-hungry ethernet
devices, such as video screen phones, Wi-Max transmitters, pan-tilt-zoom cameras
and thin clients.” While the company has a wide range of PoE solutions, it is
keen on promoting the midspan range in India. This is especially because of the
product's capability to enable PoE support in to non-PoE based switches or
routers.

In view of this huge potential, PowerDsine is currently in the process of
setting up a channel distribution network. On top of the channel network, the
company has already appointed Anixter as its distributor for Asia Pacific
region. “We are in the process of appointing dealers and system integrators
who will be supported by Anixter's India office in Bangalore,” said
Pinjarkar.

Elaborating on the market potentials for PoE solutions, Pinjarkar said, “PoE
technology enables the installation of wireless LAN access points in places
where electrical outlets do not exist. Many other LAN applications such as
network cameras, access control devices, laptop computers, PDAs, fire sensors
and alarms, audio and video remote monitoring will also get benefited from PoE
technology”.
