Red Hat trains resellers on Linux

Chennai:To create awareness about Linux products among resellers in Chennai, Red Hat and GT Enterprises, distributor of Red Hat in India, organized a training program in Chennai on Nov 25.

More than 40 partners attended the training program. Muralidhar Kannan, Channel Sales Manager-South, Red Hat and Venkata Ramana Solution Architect, conducted the training session.

KV Jeyaasankaran, Business Development Manager, GT Enterprises remarked, “The response to the session was extremely positive and we have already started getting orders from some resellers in Ritchie Street”. He agreed that the acceptability of open source is low among end-users and it is a matter of awareness. He further pointed out that government sector is also focusing on open source and many corporates use Linux due to its solid security features.
“Compared with established brands, there is a huge price difference between using open source products and licensed versions,” added Jeyaasankaran.

He further said, “Open Office and anti-virus go into our OS, minimizing cost to a major extent. However, open source needs support and that is where Red Hat comes into picture. There are three types of subscriptions for support, viz, basic, standard, and premium.”

Raja of Softline Technologies, a participant of the training session, commented, “The training session was excellent. There is a huge potential for Linux, particularly in the server segment. But, the only problem is lack of customer awareness.”

Ranjan, Business Head, Relitronics India remarked, “ I expect Red Hat to run an effective campaign highlighting the features of Linux, cost advantages, and other attributes to create awareness among end users.”
