One company that defied slowdown and went on to grow at a healthy pace is
Ahmedabad-based Sai Infosystem India. One encouraging aspect about the company's
revenue is that its services component has been steadily rising. In 2008-09 the
services business contributed Rs 29 crore to the overall revenue, almost
doubling it up from Rs 17 crore in the previous fiscal.
The company witnessed a sluggish H1 with the revenues touching just Rs 157
crore, but in H2 the situation turned around with the JFM quarter chipping in Rs
177 crore alone. Part of this turnaround could be because of the company's tie
up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to offer video telephony services on the
latter's broadband network.
A bulk of the company's revenues continues to come from the West,
contributing 52 percent to the overall turnover, followed by central and eastern
India. Amongst customer verticals, corporate and the IT/ITeS/telecom segment
were the mainstays for the company, amounting to 30 percent of the company's
business. Government selling followed at 16 percent. The company has steadily
reduced its sales to the home and SOHO clientele which chipped just three
percent to its turnover. During 2008-2009, formulating a long-term business
plan, Sai registered itself at Special Economic Zone at Kandla (Gujarat.) It
also floated a 100 percent subsidiary namely SIS Global FZE at Sharjah to
further boost its international operations.
