Symantec, RCom in talks for hosted services

Symantec, a global security and storage
solutions provider, is in early talks with Reliance Communications
(RCom) to explore a possibility of hosted services for enterprises
and small and medium businesses (SMBs).

“We are looking at partners who can
provide end-to-end services and solutions to customers and also can
provide their value-added services (VAS) such as telcos. And we are
in talks with RCom for providing managed services to enterprises and
SMBs,” said Ajay Goel, MD, Symantec India at the company's annual
event Symantec Vision 2020 in Mumbai. According to Bill Robbins, EVP-
Worldwide Sales, Symantec, the cloud-based services for enterprises
and SMBs include back-ups, messaging security and archiving along
with data loss prevention and other hosted services through telcos. In
reply to a question, whether
Symantec will have an exclusive tie-up with RCom for managed
services, Robbins said, “We are open to other telcos also, but we
will look at those telcos which have common interests and goals;
which are economically viable and valuable to customers. But we are
very careful in selecting our partners.” On the possibility of
managed services with Symantec, RCom's CIO Alpna Doshi, said, “The
talks are at the initial stage and I am not fully aware about it and
so wouldn't be able to comment much on it.” Doshi was conferred
with the Luminary award by Symantec during the company's annual event
here. RCom has deployed Symantec's enterprise class storage backup
and security solutions to meet its internal IT requirements for the
business.
