Taipei eyes India as investment destination

Taiwan has joined the bandwagon of countries eyeing India as a hot destination
for direct investment. As a part of the relation-building initiatives taken up
by the Taipei World Trade Center, the latter has invited a delegation of
Taiwanese companies to Mumbai. The meeting with Indian importer is scheduled to
happen this week.

Taiwanese companies now recognize India as a virgin market with a huge
potential and are all set to explore the Indian frontiers with an all new mantra
'Go South — to India'. Senior representatives of Taiwan ICT companies in
India (Acer India, Asustek Computer Inc, D-Link, Gigabyte, Hi-Touch) addressed
the press recently in Mumbai to announce their future investment plans and new
products for Indian Market.

Taiwanese companies now recognize India as a market with a huge potential for
ICT products. Acer, Asustek, BenQ, D-Link and Gigabyte are some of the top ICT
companies that have presence in India. These companies have significantly
increased the value of their brands from last year, with Asustek and Acer
remaining at the top for the third consecutive year. “India is a big market
for Taiwan after China and Japan. Its enormous potential is evident from the
fact that 60 plus Taiwanese companies are already operating in India and 100
plus companies will begin their operations by 2007” said Thomas Chang,
Director, Taipei World Trade Center, Mumbai, addressing the media.

Taiwan has successfully augmented its Information Communications and
Technology (ICT) industry sector with many large players as well as medium and
small enterprises all accounting for Taiwan's increased global numbers,
rankings and market shares.
