TAIT alerts members against Inspiration and Modera Computers

Mumbai: Post the fraud by ABS Systems, where several Mumbai partners were duped by the company, Trade Association of Information Technology (TAIT) has circulated a precautionary mail against parties who had purchased goods at discounted rate from ABS Systems.

TAIT has advised its members not to conduct business with two companies-Inspiration (Apple) and Modera Computers, since the association stated that “both the parties had indulged in unethical business practices.”

The e-mail, a copy of which is lying with this reporter stated, “The TAIT committee has gone through the transactions (computer printed ledger) provided by Inspiration (Apple) and Modera Computers regarding ABS. After the scrutiny of the documents submitted by above parties we found that the goods were purchased at a discounted price.”

The mail further requested all TAIT members to take precautionary measures while transacting business with the above mentioned dealers.

Pravin Dhoka, Spokesperson, TAIT stated, “Buying and selling of computer parts and peripherals at discounted price itself is an offense punishable under Section 411 of Indian Penal Code, and therefore TAIT and its committee members shall not be in any position to assist any member dealing indulging in faulty business practices. We have alarmed all the members to distant themselves from such parties.”

It may be recalled that Amit Seth, Proprietor, ABS Systems had duped several of his business partners to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore. Seth had sold goods below the market operating price (MOP) to several channel partners in the city and after garnering funds from them, defaulted the payment of his suppliers and absconded from Mumbai. Following the incident, the association committee had met on May 19, 2009 to discuss the issue, where it identified five of Seth's buyers who had bought the products below MOP.

While TAIT had then alarmed members against one of the faulty parties, Sree Sai Traders for purchasing products below the MOP from ABS Systems, the association has alerted its members against the other two parties identified in the case-Modera Computers and Inspiration (Apple) in its recent mail.

When contacted, Irfan Siddiqui, Proprietor, Inspiration refused to comment stating that a writ petition has been filed against ABS and therefore the matter is sub judice. Comments from Modera's Proprietor, Bharat, were awaited at the time of filing this report.
