Technology (TAIT) elected its office bearers for the year 2006-07 at the
recently held annual general meeting in Mumbai. The new committee saw Saurin
Shah making a come back as Chairman for the year 2006-07. He takes over the post
from Champakraj Gurjar, who was the Chairman for 2005-06.
According to sources, members took key decision on how job roles of the
committee members would be rotated annually in the future. As per the new
policy, each committee member would go up one level in their job role every
year, unless somebody resigns. Which in short means, the general secretary will
become VP, and the VP will become president, and president will become chairman
and the chairman will become a committee member, on completion of their term. In
the case of treasurer, the members are yet to decide whether to apply this
method, possibly because members may not have found a better person than Gul
Phagwani who has been Treasurer for the past many years.

As per the rules of the association one-third of the committee members, who
are also directors of TAIT, must retire every year. Because of this clause, all
those members who are not in the committee stand a chance to be a part of the
committee, provided they are nominated and seconded during the AGMs.
Members who got a new role in the committee: Anees Khalfay-President (he
was earlier the VP), Pravin Dhoka-VP (was earlier the General Secretary) and
Chetan Shah-General Secretary (was the President in 2005-06). Gul Phagwani
retained his position as Treasurer for 2006-07. Champakraj Gurjar (Chairman
2005-06) and Umang Mehta will stay in the committee as members.
The AGM also allotted different task-based responsibilities to some of the
committee members for the year 2006-07. Accordingly, Saurin Shah will have the
dual responsibility of being the Chairman Special Task. This essentially
involves discussions on a national level. He also takes up the role of Chairman
for Government and Legal Issues. Dhoka will have additional responsibility of
being the Chairman for Fellowship and Business Meets. He will also be the
Chairman for the Sub Committee. Gurjar and Khalfay have the responsibility to
head the Members Grievance Cell. Chetan Shah and Saurin Shah will head the TAIT
Cricket Committee. Gurjar and Mehta are responsible for all official
interactions with the media.
