TAIT committee re-elected for 2009-10

Mumbai: In view of only two nominations received by Trade Association of Information Technology (TAIT) during the election procedure held on Sep 30, 2009, the entire existing committee was re-elected for the period 2009-10.

During the meeting, office bearers and members also held discussions around the plans and activities to be implemented throughout the year. Members discussed the marketing activities to be undertaken for COM-IT, the annual exhibition to be held from Dec 10-13 at the MMRDA ground this year.

The fact that the same committee has been re-elected to look after the functioning of the association has not gone down well with some members. One of the members, on condition of anonymity, stated, “In the past there have been several occasions when members who were willing to file their nominations were forced to withdraw their names. The same committee getting re-elected makes it a very monotonous affair for us.”

Sampath Iyenger of Sam 7 Computers and Networks opined, “For the last five to six years, the same faces are being re-elected and it's time that fresh candidates be considered as office bearers. There have been instances when the present members have not allowed any outsiders to take charge of the committee since they have their own set of ideas and do not want to be interrupted.”

Saifee Merchant of Best International added, “While there is no denying the fact that the present committee has undertaken several initiatives to address the concerns of the members, there is definitely a need for change within the committee. Besides, TAIT does not have any bylaws that will make it mandatory for the association to consider a new member for any given post. It's about time that members pro-actively took part in the association's activities and came forward to file their nominations.”

Reacting to the above statement, Praveen Dhoka, Spokesperson, TAIT clarified, “We received only two nominations for the period 2009-10 and hence the entire committee has been re-elected unopposed. Around 40 directors of the committee were present during the meeting that was held on Sep 30.

The office bearers include Anees Khalfay of Radiant Computer Technologies, Ketan Patel of Creative Peripherals & Distribution, Girish Rathod of Compex Systems, Umang Mehta of Roop Technology, Praveen Dhoka of Ortek Computers, Champak Gurjar of Maxtone Electronics, Rushabh Shah of Graham Information Systems, Sharad Khandelwal of Kay Kay Overseas Corporation, Samir Parekh of Brainpoint Computer Consultancy and Sameer Bhatija of MX Information Systems. The designations of the office bearers will be decided in the meeting which is scheduled to be held later this week.
