TAIT conducts IT expo

Tirunelveli Association of IT (TAIT) independently conducted its IT expo last
week. Tirunelveli District Collector G Prakash, IAS, inaugurated the event.
Speaking about the event, T Kumar, Chairman, IT-EXPO 2008, TAIT said, “Earlier,
we conducted the exhibition along with rotary and it was a mixture of other
verticals. But this time we took the initiative and did it on our own with the
help of vendors. This is the first complete IT expo happening in Tirunelveli.”

Compact UPS was the primary sponsor for the event. HP Invent, Compaq, HCL,
Acer, Intel, Intex, Samsung, TVS-E, and Canon were the co-sponsors. “It was
the first time in Tirunelveli that vendors participated directly in the expo.
Earlier, we used to put up the stall for vendors and collect the amount from
them, however this event saw their direct participation,” Kumar informed.

TAIT planned the event while ensuring there was no clash between the vendors
and channels in the sales by maintaining separate area for both the communities
to showcase their products. “We arranged for a seminar hall in the vendors
area, which they used for educating the end-users on various topics,” Kumar
said.

The event witnessed a crowd of 5,000 people from in and around Tirunelveli.
Tirunelveli is becoming a hot IT destination after the Tamil Nadu state
governments announcement to construct an IT park in the town. “This was a
great success for us and we are very interested in taking this forward. We would
like to use this as an opportunity to thank the vendors, who supported us
throughout the event,” Kumar averred.
