Theft at Computer People, Panipat

The showroom of Computer People, Panipat was burgled last week. The thieves
fled with seven Toshiba notebooks and Rs 7,500 in cash. The incident took place
on the 21st night when the thieves opened the shutter of the showroom and
scampered away with five new and two old Toshiba laptops, along with the cash.

The model and the serial numbers of the laptops stolen are as follows-M800-58290280W,
L310-P4010, L300-48079315W, C5010-38144321Q, M300 D4310-48279637W. These
notebooks were stolen without the accessories like adapters, carry case and
boxes (packing).

Talking about the incident, Sandeep Bansal, Proprietor, Computer People
mentioned, “The day after the incident when I opened the shutter of my
showroom, I found the laptops missing and the cash box lying empty. To make
matters worse, the insurance policy that I had taken was valid only till the
month of July and this loss is a major setback for my business.“

Bansal has filed an FIR and the local police are investigating the case.
Besides, the dealer has also approached Paniapt Computer Dealers Association (PCDA)
in order to make the dealer community aware of the incident and to circulate an
alert mail amongst them.

Taking lessons from the incident and as a precautionary measure, Bansal has
now decided to put a lock on all the laptops and is also planning to put
electronic locks in his showroom, so that any future incidents of a similar
nature can be avoided.

“This is the first time that my showroom has been burgled and this has
certainly taught me a big lesson. I will be putting lock on all the laptops.
Besides the electronic locks in my showroom will ensure that an SMS alert is
sent to me the moment anyone tries to break into the shop,” added Bansal.
