TVS-E forays into thermal printing domain

TVS Electronics (TVS-E) has announced its entry into the thermal printing category with the launch of its thermal printer, TVS
Smart. According to the company, the TVS Smart is suited for billing, receipt, label, tickets and
barcode printing applications for all retail, transportation and logistics customers.

Thermal printers offer a direct advantage over their counterparts in terms of high speed, low noise, compactness and lowÂ
maintenance. In addition, thermal printing technology does not require additional consumables such as
toner or ink ribbon that add cost and more importantly additional service or maintenance calls. 

Key features of TVS Smart include fast and high printing quality at 203 dpi, print paper width of 80 mm / 3.14" (40 Col to 71 Col), printing speed of two
inches per second or 50 mm per second, Windows 3.1/95/98/NT compatible, main 1D and 2DÂ
barcodes symbologies, flash memory for upgrades, easy paper loading technology and ESC/POS compatible with anÂ
RS323C (Serial Port) Interface. It also accepts multiple media types.

According to TVS-E marketing GM S Narendran, "The thermal printer market is evolving and growing rapidly on account ofÂ
the intensification of automation in the retail segment. At present, there are no vendors to actively push the
product in the market so we felt that this would be the right time to enter the market. The thermal printer market is likely to increase threeÂ
folds in size by the end of next year."

TVS Smart, which is priced at Rs 13,500, comes with a one year on site warranty.
