Two of 28 stolen laptops returned

Mumbai: The Mumbai police have succeeded in tracing two of 28 stolen
laptops in the city. One of them was handed over to a man named Amit Patangere
who filed a case of theft with the Chembur police station for the same. 'The
other laptop was claimed by the cops of Band Garden Police Station in Pune,
where another case of theft was registered,' informed Babasaheb Bendre,
Investigating Police Officer, Chembur police station, who had confiscated the 28
stolen laptops in an operation earlier this month. However, no arrest has been
made with respect to the case as yet, as the police are yet to nab the culprit.

It may be noted that the Mumbai police confiscated as many as 28 laptops,
allegedly stolen from different parts of Mumbai on January 9, 2009 after raiding
a shop named Side Walk Systems at Lamington Road. This happened after an
undercover cop posing as a customer went to a shop named Plug N Play
Technologies and asked for a specific laptop. Plug N Play Technologies procured
the laptop from Side Walks Systems, as they were running short of stock, which
was later found as a stolen one. However, no arrests were made as the prime
facie evidence showed that the shop owners were not behind these thefts.

Rushab Shah of Plug N Play Technologies clarified, 'Plug N Play Technologies
has no role to play in the entire episode. Whenever, a customer demands a
product that is not in our stock, we order it from any other dealer in Lamington
Road as a business practice. In this particular case, we ordered it from Side
Walk Systems.'
