Umax appoints Cyberstar as second national disty

Umax has appointed Bangalore-based Cyberstar Infocom as its second national
distributor for India. Currently, Neoteric Infomatique has been solely
responsible for selling Umax's products. Apart from scanners, Cyberstar will
distribute the entire range of vendor's product portfolio including LCD
monitors, digital cameras, pen drives, MP3 players, keyboards and mice.
Commenting on the tie-up, Bennett Wu, Sales Manger, Umax Taiwan said, "Cyberstar's
market reach, innovative marketing and after-sales support will go a long way in
increasing Umax's business in India."

The distribution house will be making these products available from all of
its 12 branches within next few weeks. Added Raj Rathi, MD, Cyberstar,
"Tie-up with Umax strongly complements our existing product portfolio,
which largely had been strong on the component side. Having Umax as our vendor
will give us a strong edge in the peripherals space too."

In view of this tie-up and also to further expand its business, Cyberstar
will be appointing partners across 60-70 B, C and D-class cities. "Each of
these cities will have one exclusive partner and we hope to have all of them in
place within next three months," informed Raj.

Raj also dispels the concern that with two national distys coming in place
for Umax, there would be instances of over-distribution and channel conflict.
"We believe that a brand like Umax is still under-distributed and we see a
large market potential for the same. We don't see a room as such for any kind
of channel conflict happening because of two distributors," asserted he.
